Versi and Blue want to fly so much while they watch their playmates zoom past them.

Blue has destroyed my camera. Out to buy a new one.
I had to share the feather heads enjoying their flight space while we rebuild our new home.
TiAmo with wings spread along with Rascal, Blue Indigo.
What how TiAmo and Rascal change positions with protection of their environment, cute.
Rascal and Ti Amo are both offspring from Velvet and Dolci Blue

March 19, 2005
The Hyacinth Macaws, Dolci and Velvet were dancing when I came into their room.  I  ran for the camera to grab some of their fun together 'before ' they do the wild thing.  Please do notice how the aviculturist can interfere with the breeding pair. Notice how Velvet grabs hold of Dolci's claw and tries to upright herself for the wild thing.   I purposely start the tapping to demonstrate how interference occurs for he stops all attention to Velvet and comes to me.  Velvet will be eleven years old this May,2005.  I've had her since age 5 weeks, since July 1994..  She was incubated and hatched baby by her breeder and hand fed by me almost two years till Dolci got hold of her..then forever his...........

You have to make up your mind (someday) whether you are trying to be a breeder, or trying to confuse nature by making pets breed. There is a difference. In my experience, if you spoil BIRDS when they are young, they become very poor parents when the time arrives. They will often eat eggs or kill babies. Yes everyone's
experience is different and there are exceptions to every rule  (after all
ONE can reach into a Hyacinth box and play with the chicks-YOUCH)...This is
my experience and I'm sticking to it! LOL

HYACINTH   MACAWS

Hyacinth Chicks incubated, hatched and fed by Cherane Pefley, Aviculturist and Saver of Rare Chicks.

Drawdown to freedom of shell  can take four to five days for a hatching chick.
1. internal pip refer to  draw down  by most, actually it is breaking through the inner membrane and can take up to two days for  the chick to take its first breath of air by breaking through the inner membrane and slipping into the air cell end of the egg.
2. external pip occurs and can take anywhere from tweleve hours to seventy two hours for breaking out of the shell .   Absorbing the yolk is the function through this period of time.
3. breaking out of shell with rotation movement  and jerking of the neck muscle and abdominal muscle forcing the beak against the shell causing breakage and opening with each strike.   Once rotation starts, the chick can take ten to 40 minutes  for expulsion from the egg shell .
Beyond forty minutes I will be remove the rotating chick from remaining shell.  The neck muscle and abdominal wall have usually achieved goals of development and absorption of yolk after forty minutes of work for the hatching  chick.
